OUR STORY

The Arden Hotel is more than a place
to stay— it is a continuation of a story

The Arden Hotel is a thoughtful reimagining of a landmark building—an architectural transformation that bridges past and present in the heart of downtown Vancouver. Honouring the building’s original character while embracing a new purpose, the Arden reflects a careful balance of heritage, design, and hospitality. Through considered restoration, contemporary comforts, and a deep connection to its surrounding neighbourhood, it offers a distinctly Vancouver experience rooted in authenticity and place.

OUR HISTORY

Originally constructed during the Brutalist period, the building stands as a bold expression of mid-century design, defined by its strong geometry, structural clarity, and enduring materiality. Rather than replace this history, the Arden embraces it—preserving the integrity of the original architecture while introducing a refined, contemporary layer of design that reflects the city’s evolving character.

This conversion project represents a more intentional approach to development—one rooted in sustainability, adaptive reuse, and respect for what already exists. By transforming a former office building into a boutique hotel, the Arden reduces environmental impact while contributing to the revitalization of the surrounding urban fabric.

INSIDE THE ARDEN

Inside, the design balances contrast and cohesion. The raw, architectural backbone of the building is softened through warm materials, curated details, and spaces that feel both elevated and inviting. Each element has been carefully considered to create an experience that is as functional as it is beautiful.

Arden Hotel Art Collection

Created exclusively for the Arden, this collection draws from Jim C. Brown’s Imagined Forest series, combining photographs of solitary trees from around the world into serene, layered woodland landscapes.
Inspired by the hotel’s 1970s Brutalist origins and dramatic interior atrium, the artworks reinterpret the era’s bold forms and colours—including shades of avocado green and burnt orange—through a contemporary lens. Together, the collection reflects the Arden itself: a gathering place shaped by diverse stories, shared experiences, and a deep connection to place.

Vancouver-based artist Jim C. Brown has maintained a professional art practice since 1988. Inspired by nature and historic decorative traditions, his work begins with photographs of plants and trees captured during his travels. These images are digitally transformed and handprinted onto plaster on wood, creating richly textured, one-of-a-kind artworks held in private and gallery collections across Canada.
For the Arden, Brown drew inspiration from both his travels and the building’s heritage, creating a collection that bridges art, architecture, and place while bringing a sense of warmth and quiet reflection to the hotel experience.
